What's all going on at CPA?

What's CPA been up to in 2020?
December 15, 2020

Here's what CPA has done this year before and since COVID started! CPA is continuing to provide service to the young people in our area, especially at a time when it is needed more than ever. While creating joy for our community.

CPA started 2020 with two productions! We:
  • Performed Frozen, Jr. with 110 student performers, to over 4000 patrons in January
  • Produced our first all-student run show in Feb "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" to sold-out crowds in the Black Box

Here's what we've been up since mid-March! We:
  • Changed all programming to one of three formats: in person, online or hybrid
  • Delivered family touch basket during the middle of the shutdown
  • Created a #justanintermission video
  • Did our first Zoomusical "The Big One-OH"
  • Did our first online workshop "The Sneetches"
  • Did our first virtual monologue workshop
  • Did our first radio play (a reimagined version of "War of the Worlds") which introduced students to recording in a live TV studio, making sound effects, writing jingles and a new types of public performance (performing for an audience that isn't physically present)
  • Did three, free outdoor live performances for the community (two pop-up performances in downtown WBL and one in Polar Lakes Park)
  • Hosted a drive-in theater night as a "friendraiser" for donors, parents & kids
  • Did a food and clothing drive Kids for Kids for the children of South Minneapolis
  • Co-hosted the first annual Hanifl Arts Festival.
  • Did "The Kindness Project" -- an original, student curated show that gave kids K-12 the opportunity to express their art and hope for the future through music and dance
  • Continued our production crew program
  • Produced, hosted and presented the first virtual Masque
  • Scaled down programs and classes sizes to keep students safe and stay within a budget to allow us to likely end the year in the black
