What is Spotlight on a Cause?
Spotlight on a Cause is part of Children’s Performing Arts leadership programming. Every fall the students put on a production to bring awareness to the chosen cause. This year’s focus is dyslexia. The first 45 minutes of Monday's rehearsal is dedicated to developing leaders and learning about the cause: what the kids could do about the cause, and how they could make a difference. All three tracks; Main cast, ensemble and production will take part. The goal of this program is to teach our children about the world around them, how they can make a difference and how to become future leaders within our community.
Fame The Musical inspired generations to fight for fame and light up the sky like a flame! The show follows the final class of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts from their admission in 1980 to their graduation in 1984. All of the struggles, fears and triumphs – from prejudice to substance abuse – are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young artists navigate the worlds of music, drama and dance.

We are excited to announce that this production will be in person with safety protocols in place. In line with the current governmental orders, a mask and face shield will be required for programming. Students are required to supply their own mask and face shield. While performing indoors, students are expected to wear, at minimum, a face shield. Students are required to wear a mask while not performing unless a medical reason is reported to Children's Performing Arts in advance. When possible, rehearsals will take place outdoors. We will keep you updated as our protocols change in line with the most recent government guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to info@childrensperformingartsmn.org

Things CPA is doing to ensure safety:
- All door handles will be sanitized prior to arrival
- Safety drop-off – CPA staff will come out to your car to greet and take the temperature of your student and verify students have been symptom free
- Students will sanitize/wash hands upon arrival
- Programming will be outside when weather permitting (not too hot or raining.)
- When inside, we will be in our large classrooms or large TV Studio which allows for social distancing
- Each student is to bring their own labeled water bottle. All personal items will be socially distanced as well
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is encouraging all Americans — even people who feel healthy — to wear cloth face masks or homemade face coverings in public when 6-feet social distancing is difficult to maintain in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19. CPA will do our best to provide more than enough space to allow for social distancing. Masks are encouraged for situations when students cannot maintain 6 ft of distance. Students must provide their own mask/face covering.

Why do you require background checks for volunteers?
Every year, CPA relies on its volunteers to assist to create successful programs. Our volunteers fulfill roles as guardians, costume and stage assistants, lead chaperones, and so much more. We are so fortunate to have parent volunteers and their vital contribution to CPA’s success. We could not do what we do without you. CPA takes seriously its commitment to promoting a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our young participants. All volunteers (with the exception of our Junior Directors) will be required to complete a CONFIDENTIAL background check. The ultimate goal is to verify identity and prevent unidentified individuals from entering rehearsal practices or jeopardizing a child’s safety. The safety of the children enrolled in our program is of the highest priority to us! Cost for background checks is $17.00. CLICK HERE for more info.
